I just did a consoltation with an Ayurveda practioner. My doshas were detirmined primarily by pulse, as well as by questions and evaluating of my physical structure.
My dosha is:
Vata 3
Pitta 1
Kapha 2
My question is does that make me a Vata-Kapha, or Vata with secondary dosha of kapha?

Mon, February 13, 2006 - 3:04 AMI thought having being a Vatta-Kapha means that your secondary dosha is kapha. Unless you have an agrivated dosha. Did he tell you that any of youre doshas are agrivated?

Re: dosha
Fri, February 17, 2006 - 6:03 PMSame thing, at least that is your Prakruti, that is the constitution that you were born with. You Vikruti is the exess dosha that you have currently, for example in the fall your Vata is probably highr, and in the late winter and spring your Kapha is higher, treat which ever dosha is predominant in the moment. At least you have pungent taste in common, bitter and astringent increase vata but decrease Kapha, sweet, salty and sour decrease Vata but increase Kapha, excess Pungent increases Vata but a little is good, just treat the Dosha seasonally, your main concerns are probably going to manifest through Vata, most disorders usually start with Vata anyway. A little fire in your life can balance you out. -

Re: dosha
Thu, February 23, 2006 - 11:13 AMare you saying, that prakriti changes constantly -from morning to evening and winter to summer. then it shouldn't be called prakriti, should be vikriti. prakriti by definition is 'original make'.

Thu, February 23, 2006 - 11:39 AMPrakruti - what you are born with...
Vikruti - the imbalance...
and "dosha" actually refers to the way energy moves which is not quite the same as the rediculously long lists most authors use attempting to describe it to a western audience (it can manifest as the things mentioned in the lists - but it is not the same as the stuff contained on the lists, a subtle but necessary distinction)

Re: dosha
Thu, February 23, 2006 - 11:11 AMwhat do you mean by vata, pitta, kapha?
when i read some books they talk about mostly negetive stuff about them. and from my basic knowledge of biolgoy and ayurveda constitution is not about what's wrong. it should be about your talents, skills, potentials and so on.
how do you justify this

Re: dosha
Sat, February 25, 2006 - 6:58 PMDosha actually means imbalance, the positive aspects relating to bodily humors i.e. Vata Pitta and Kapha are the normal functions in the body and mind that each governs. Basically Vata is composed of Air and Ether and governs communication (nerve tissue), electrical and chemical impulses, and movement like peristalsis. Pitta is composed of the luminous and liquid factors or fire and water and governs all transformative processes including digestion, assimilation both bodily and psychologically. Kapha is composed of the solid and liquid factors, or Earth and water, and is responsible for all of the structure and stability that the physical body is composed of. Imbalance accurse when we have excess of any of the five elements, like excess fire in any form increases Pitta, excess air or wind in any form increases Vata, and excess earth or anything with its qualities increases Kapha. -
