Fasting to get mucus out of the system

Hello Everybody.

I'm going through a 7 days fast with the intention of getting rid of as much mucus as possible through out my whole system. so far i have been guiding this fast with ayurvedic principles so as to see too much mucus as a kapha imbalance.

So i have been drinking plenty of ginger tea... some cayenne tea when i feel brave enough and kombucha tea here and there to keep appetite down.

Any other ideas or recommendations on how to get as much mucus as i can in this 6 days out of my body?

Salut!
Nico

Candida Cleanse

Hello all...I am in the process of tackiling my candida. I am just torn by a few things. Perhaps you can guide me in a direction that may be condusive to my well-being during this endeavor. Ok...I know that candida can often be caused from stress, but most of all sugar. The un-natural kind. I'm very aware that cane sugar, fructose, honey, and molasses can be healing to the body. I have heard many different discussions concerning candida cleansing. Some say that fruit(right kinds are ok) during the cleanse. In Ayurveda chocolate can be very warming to Vata and comforting. I am the type of person who enjoys milk, chocolate(dark chocolate mostly), and honey. I actually have cut down tremendously my sugar tooth. I only crave fruit and dark chocolate at times. Has anyone actually had some success on a Vata diet for eczema and what did you eat? Is a little fruit oka nd what kinds during the cleanse? Or should i just cut out every type of sugar completely. I'm very torn because i need fats and become very ill from not consuming them. I enjoy chicken, fish, and red meat on occasions. I also am very aware or eating meat that wasn't harmed and is organic. Could someone suggest a diet for Candida that won't make me disappear, but help me kill the parasites so I can be at hoemostatic bliss again. My liver is very tired and angry from my constant strugglew with food.

I've heard all sorts of amazing things about apple cider vinegar, but I've also read that fermented foods (particularly vinegars) will increase Pitta. I'm pretty much pure pitta (with a hint of vata) and I don't really want to throw it out of whack... Does anyone have experience or advice on this matter? Would the benefits perhaps outway the downsides? Thanks and blessings.

Weight Problem

Hello all,
In the last 6 months I have put on 35 pounds. I know I need to cut my consumption and become more active. I own a store, and times get hard and I find I am eating a lot. Maybe for comfort. I also supplement my store's income by internet sales, which means I am in front of the computer for long periods of time. Boredom, frustration, I am finding I am always looking for something to eat now. I want to try to curb my dependancy on nibbling. One thing I thought was to drink water whenever I felt the urge to eat. It would serve as an appetite suppresant. I try to take at least one 20 minute walk a day. I do not have much free/personal time to do much more. I walk in the morning, and if I can, I try to take a walk in the evening as well. I feel like I am not going to be able to get the weight off quickly. I don't want to take a year to get the weight off. Six months even seems too long. I know that lifestyle change is going to be a big part of my success, but is there anything else that can help me burn the fat off?
Thanks,
Therese
~*~

Vata balancing diet

Hi All,

I have major vata imbalance and I am trying to follow strict vata pacifying diet. However, choices are very limited. I wanted to post my menu here and see if people have any ideas/recommendations for getting more variety --

bfast
-oatmeal

lunch and dinner
- bulgur or basmati rice with veggies (asparagus, carrot, sweet potato beet root, squash, green beans or okra only)

snacks
- vata pacifying fresh fruits or nuts
- same as lunch

I am trying to cook fresh for both lunch and dinner, although at times it is not possible to do so.

Thanks

I have aggravated vata dosha and I get frequent headaches as a result. I have constipation also and have to take avipattikar daily. I have heard that vata dosha gets aggravated in pregnancy, does it mean that if I were to get pregnant, my headaches would become worse?

Hi, I apologize in advance for the cross-post, but this is something that I thought would appeal to people in several different tribes.

We are pleased to announce AyurvedaMD (www.ayurvedamd.org), an organization that has been established to promote education, training, and research for integrating Ayurveda with conventional western health care.

This October, in Berkeley, CA, we will be kicking off a series of conferences that will run through the spring of 2009.

Dates: Oct. 24-26, 2008
Location: UC Berkeley, Berkeley, CA
Dr. Douillard will weave together the matrix of Ayurveda and Western perspectives on primary care and behavioral health.

Seasonal and daily routines including diet, exercise, stress reduction, yoga, and meditation will be thoroughly discussed. An introduction to Ayurvedic psychology and the Ayurvedic assessment techniques of pulse and tongue diagnosis will be presented. Dr. Douillard will discuss Yoga and its intimate relationship to Ayurveda.

Finally, we will discuss Ayurveda’s relevance and application to health care practice in the West.

I just started using a neti pot and LOVE it. It is complimenting my pranayama practice very well - clarity, expansiveness, ahhh.
I'm wondering if there is any chance of getting water in the ear canals thru neti pottin'? What is the range of normal sensation to be expected in the ears?
I have sensitive ears and had many ear infections as a child so I'm a quite over protective of these glorious sound absorbers.

ANy thoughts?

cheers.

I would like to take this herb for occasional sleeplessness as well as a general adaptogenic tonic. I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations on the proper / most effective way to take this herb in powdered form? have read that it is best taken in combination with milk, or perhaps with ghee or honey. I am lactose intolerant, though, so can soymilk or almond milk be substituted for the cow's milk? And how much should I take? (I have a Vata constitution, by the way.) Thanks in advance....

AyurJyothi Massage Stage 2009 India

AyurJyothi Massage Stage 2009 India

AyurJyothi massage is a special kind of massage or healing method based on ayurveda and yoga. This method is a powerful way to give an experience to the people who are tired and depressed. It is also highly therapeutic for people who are suffering from muscular pain, insomnia, helps to come out from emotional imbalances etc, if the healer is really serious and devoted to his profession can help his/her clients to feel the deep silence and peace inside themselves. It is a powerful method to come back to the self, which help to have a peaceful life.

This massage helps to balance the vita (air) pita (fire) kappa (water) elements in the human body. According to ayurveda balance of three elements is the result of good health.

It also helps to generate more pranas the life force in our body and mind, helps to promote strong immunity and spiritual awakenings. It needs an open mind with trust, more sessions and change of life style also necessary too. This method often helps people to change their life. That is why this massage is called AyurJyothi massage: ayur means life, Jyothi means light. It is the light of life. This method helps us to have a positive transformation in our life.

Ayurvedic Cleanse & Protocol....

Namaste All,

I am a student of Ayurveda & have currently been diagnosed thru pluse with kidney stones & an inflamed liver & possible Gall Stones...
I have devised a cleanse thru research and need a little guidance and advise about the protocol....

I want to make sure that during this cleanse that the Dipana (Agni) is high, the Pachana (ability to digest Ama) is strong, and Anulomana (the ability to eliminate toxins) is working properly.....
I know that I must have a healthy colon in order to have a successful cleanse & my tongue is showing signs of mild ama & scallops (mal-absorption)...
I have developed some kidney stones which are in need of attention (I am feeling a dull pain in my left kidney)
and my liver/GB has been tender & inflamed over the past month... the main intention of the cleanse is to eliminate the kidney & gall stones....
I am thinking of ending the cleanse with a few basti's, both anuvasana & niruha, if needed....

I have the following herbs to work with:
- Triphala (to cleanse colon)
- Redmond Clay (to help draw out toxins)
- Psyillium Husk/Isabgol (to help draw out toxins)
- Hingwastika (to help kindle agni)
- Bhumi Amalaki (for kidney stones)
- Gokshura (kidney)
- Purnarnava (kidney)
- Purnarnava Guggulu (kidney)
- Corriander (kidney)
- Shillajit (kidney)
- Milk thistle (liver)
- Dandelion root (liver)
- Tikta Ghee (liver)

My vikruti is Vata with Kapha also vitiated (but not as much as vata)
My prakruti is Pitta & my pitta tends to go off balance quite easily (I get short & irritable)...
So I think all 3 doshas are out of balance as of now, in the following order: VPK

I have come up with the following protocol to address the liver - but this was before I realized that I also had kidney stones....
I started with a general fast to help clear out the intestines, but want to make sure that it doesn't make my agni weak...
Now that I need to address the kidneys as well, I am getting confused....
Perhaps this protocol is totally wrong... I've done my best with research, etc...
I am ready to cleanse, but want to take my time and be gentle with my body as well...
I am also confused as to which herbs to take - they are all good, but too much of a good thing doesn't always help....
Would you mind having a look and giving me some insight as to what your thoughts are???
Any guidance would be very much appreciated!!!!

Start:
Days 1- 3: Master Cleanse (fasting) with salt water & a small amount of clay in the afternoon
*** Will this reduce the strength of my agni? I feel that I will need full strength Agni in order to go to the next phase
*** Shall I take a few days here to re-kindle agni before I begin with the oleation???
Day 4: Eat watery rice gruel & kitchari (mildly spiced) & rest
Days 5 - 11: Oletation with Tikta Ghee - start with 2 tsp ghee and continue to add 2 tsp daily until 14 tsp...
**** Do I take the ghee in the morning only or can I divide dose in half and take other half in the afternoon???
**** Will my agni be strong enough after fasting or shall I spend a few days re-kindling the agni first before doing the oleation???
**** Can I included vegetables with my kitchari diet or should I just stick with plain kitchari???
**** Can I exercise during this phase???
Day 12: Poop day (virechena with 6 tbsp castor oil)
Day 13: Rest & eat Rice gruel
*** How many days of Purva Karma is necessary??? Shall I just eat rice gruel on Day 13 and then begin kitchari???
Days 14 - 34: Start with Kidney herbs and on day 24 start with liver/GB herbs.... Maintain Kitchari diet...
***** Which herbs to take & in what combination???
**** Can I have vegetables as well???
Six days before herbs are finished - start with Apple Juice fast (32oz apple juice daily + kitchari for 6 days)
On sixth night start the liver flush (epsome salt, olive oil, etc)
Finish with colonic.... (or do basti)...

Any advise as to if this is a good protocol, will not vitiate my agni, etc will be very much appreciated!!!
Thanks & blessings!!!

in need of folks for Ayurveda Externship-Bay Area

I will be studying with a practitioner of Ayurveda for my Practicum Externship starting in mid-April. I would like to offer discounted Ayurveda sessions to anyone who is interested--including a friend or family member of yours. I will need to have 20 folks gathered by the end of March, so please let me know soon if you are interested.

The externship includes:
complete initial intakes: 1.5-2 hours
and two 30-1 hour follow up sessions

Sessions involve
determining your natural state of balance based on the elements (that I went over in the lecture)
prioritizing lifestyle changes to support your nature (diet, etc)
if applicable, determining an asana (hatha yoga postures) series to support your nature
prescribing herbal remedies (pills, powders, tinctures, teas, etc) that will help in your healing regimen

(about herbs...)
I will be supervised by an Ayurveda practitioner who has the legal ability to prescribe herbs in order to help. So far, if you have participated in a session with me you know that I am not licensed to prescribe herbs (as a Lifestyle Counselor). Under supervision, I will now be able to.

Since I will need to pay the Practitioner for the time spent overseeing, I will charge a minimum fee that will go towards the Practitioner.
cost: $41-108/ session (sliding scale) If, however, you are unable to participate due to the cost, and are still interested, we will be able to come up with a trade or make other arrangements. Mostly, I'm interested in helping facilitate healing for your personal growth.

Thank you for your support!
Please pass it on...

OM namah shivaya
Eleni

Ayurveda gives us the tools of self & body awareness; through this, health & balance become a natural way of being in the world. Ayurveda is a way of centering oneself that then allows one to give more. Eleni's practice emphasizes that you can do more for the world & for yourself if you have the capacity to replenish yourself. Her background in yoga & massage informs Eleni's sense of how to bring balance into the body.

Eleni has studied in the traditional lineages of Swami Satchitananda, Baba Hari Dass, & Sri Santosh Puri for over twelve years in California & Haridwar, India. She completed her Diploma in Ayurveda Lifestyle Counselor at the Mount Madonna Institute (Dr. Lad, Dr. Douillard, Dr. Kulkarni), two 200-hour Yoga Teacher Trainings, & a 108-hour Clinical Yoga Course.

Honey

I have a question about honey in cooked items. I've read in various Ayurveda books that honey should never be cooked in food. My wife recently bought some spelt bread & in looking at the ingredients I see that honey was one of them. So, I'm wondering now if I should avoid eating this bread entirely, or if there is some kind of antidote for something that contains cooked honey.

I also find plenty of contradictions out there. Some say that honey should never, ever be heated while others say that adding honey to tea that is below the boiling point is OK. Anyone care to share their views on these questions?

Thank you!

Hello. I'm sure this has been posted in the past but I was wondering if anyone knows of a specific herb or root which helps getting to sleep. I sleep plenty but my mind seems to wander frantically sometimes at bed time. I read an article today on BBC and Ayurveda medicine was the topic and they did bring up sleeplessness although didn't specify what herb or plant. Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks.

My allergist recommended purchasing an Infered Sauna for destoxing, however, I'm concerned this could be too drying for Vata. I'm wondering if a wet sauna would be better or what? Any suggestions......

types--a little confused

when it comes to body types, say your body is athletic, toned (pitta), yet things like hair type, sleep patterns, relationships, are more typical for kapha. when it comes to eating for your type, it seems more natural to me that you'd be better off following a menu for pitta. yet, quantitatively, you may have more kapha qualities. this gets me really confused.... isn't your general body shape more important in deciding what food you should eat than your skin, hair, sleep, personality, etc.? maybe i'm wrong and these things do all carry the same weight. i hope someone could clarify this for me.

also, these classifications seem biased to me based on geographical location and race. i would think that vata types, for example, are more prevalent in south asia. again, could someone write on this please?

I am wanting to distribute high quality ayurvedic herbs & thailams... mainly to keep myself in the oils financially and also to share with the community as ayurveda is not that prevalant yet in the mainstream but oh so beneficial...

i use mostly banyan & tri-health but even as a distributor they are expensive... is there another route via india where i can order directly or is it not worth it with the shipping??

What will the holidays bring?

What will the holidays bring? While you might be looking forward to visiting with family, stress and conflict maybe often a part of the mix. The latest research on stress shows that short term stress is actually good for your immune system. I guess that confirms the old saying, "whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger". Conflict can help you clarify your values, to stand up for what you believe in. Stress can be energizing, can help you accomplish what you need to in the world...but how much stress? how much conflict? Long-term stress is what makes us sick. So how do you know when to put on the brakes, to stop saying "yes" to extraneous commitments, to stop engaging in unnecessary conflict (not that that is an option necessarily one wishes to attract just by mentioning it (no-no-no).... So, harmony may very well be part of your (my) journey as we want to invite harmonious and smooth spiritual growth?

These aren't new questions, they have been asked for centuries. As the end of 2007 approaches, you may be taking stock, looking at what has transpired and what is to come, defining new samkalpas (resolutions) and perspectives, and reflecting on the meaning of inner and outer peace.

I for myself will be going to a retreat to get away from it all, be at ease and get new inspirations. Good company matters a lot for they increase immunity and hence spiritual well-being.

May we all develop the beautiful quality of patience within.

How does ayurveda look on drug addiction? Does it have any recommendations on treatment. Anyone here can give any advices from ayurvedic point of view. As far as i understand drugs are of tamas nature and they cause vata increasing in body. What to do with vata i know, but how to overcome tamas? Any advices?

I'm looking to network with folks, to extend an invitation to visit Bald Mountain Retreat (www.baldmountainretreat.com) as my guest. Like-minded people who appreciate rustic accommodations are welcome to come up at no charge. (Those who require a private room can inquire about those accommodations as well.)
Basically, I'm offering people the opportunity to come stay with a retired naturopathic doctor in a truly amazing natural setting, secluded, idyllic, peaceful...
Also, if you might like to lead a retreat, please contact me.
Thank you and you are welcome,

Elements and the Fingers

Folks--

--I have been doing reasearch on esoteric anatomy, and have found that different teachers/lineages assign different elements to the fingers of the hand. Isn't that interesting? How are the elements assigned in the traditions of folks in this Tribe?

--My teacher uses:
THUMB: Ether
INDEX: Air
MIDDLE: Fire
RING: Water
PINKIE: Earth

--In another tradition I respect, they use
THUMB: Earth (Na)
INDEX: Fire (Ma)
MIDDLE: Sky (Shi
RING: Water (Va)
PINKIE: Air (Ya)

Licorice Root in Ayurveda

Namaskar

So i have a question. I was browsing thru some of the supplements that the company banyan botanicals offers and i noticed that in some of their products Licorice Root is used as an everyday herb and in some of their formulas like the lung support it is actually the most dominant herb listed in that herb blend.

From my understanding taking licorice root everyday can actually be dangerous and can even raise somones blood pressure.

Is there a different belief system for licorice root in ayurveda? Is it concidered safe according to ayurveda or is it still in the danger zone area for taking daily?

I appreciate your feedback...

blessings and wellness,
bala

Ayurveda Centers and/or Communities

Hello, my fiancee and I are travelling to India soon, and are in search of centers and/or communities where we can continue our Ayurveda studies (we've been studying for a couple years on our own). We've heard Kerala is a good region to study Ayurveda, so are planning on starting our trip there, but we are open to other regions as well. We are particularly interested in studying Ayurvedic herbalism, and we would love to find a place to go through pancha karma treatment for general purification. Anyone have any recommendations and/or experiences? (My apologies if anyone read my same question in the India forum--just trying to get a wider range of answers.)
Thanks!

Misconcept about Massage

Hi,

I hard of Ayurvedic Massage in this forum. This is just massage. Not Ayurvedic.

In ayurveda, massage is a part of Panchakarma therapy which will release aamam (deposited poison) from the body parts to your throat and stomach areas. This will be eliminated before administrating any medicine to the person.

Massage using ayurvedic oils, is now-a-days is a fashion in the Western world. The massage parlours / centres are misusing the term Ayurveda for gaining commercial benefits for them.

It is a pathetic situation and need to be curbed by those who are aware of the correct procedures.

All the best

Ayurvedic Nutrition Workshop in Venice this weekend~

Hi everyone,

Is anyone in the LA area?

This weekend in Venice- July 21 & 22, from 10am to 2pm each day, i'm having a nutrition/ food workshop called 'Yoga in the Kitchen'. It is based on my Ayurvedic background, so discussions include ancient holistic principles for your specific constitution & how they can be incorporated into our modern day lifestyles.

It's fun, easy to understand, and hands-on: we will prepare organic vegetarian food together incorporating Yoga philosophy & Ayurvedic techniques.

Each 4 hour day is $100, or it's $180 for both days.

-Saturday we will discuss basic ayurvedic principles and prepare medicinal ghee & kichari (a remarkably healing meal)

-Sunday we will chop up organic veggies, saute them with seasonal masalas (spice combos) and a seasonal chutney.

**And since there are still spaces available, I'm happy to give you an additional $25 discount if you bring a friend.**

Contact me for exact location information. It is very close to the beach, and there is plenty of sunshine afterwards to enjoy the day~
310.804.9914
--Cash or checks only--
A $50 deposit will hold your space.

Ayurveda and IBS?

Hello there!
I am a vata kapha and have really variable digestion. Sometimes I am going to the bathroom all the time (when I am anxious) and other times I can barely go for a few days. I also get really bloated and gassy after dinner time and also experience pain.
I have been told that stress reduction and exercise are the most important things for me. I also know balance is very important in my life, however I am so unattracted to a regular routine! Any other suggestions other than these? I think being both vata and kapha has made it so that my digestion issues are very extreme on both sides.
i am also wondering about the ayurvedic perspective on IBS.
Thanks :)

Hey there, I just read in a book by Vasant Lad that you shouldn't take triphala during pregnancy as it will cause hyperactivity in the baby (does he mean after the baby is born or in the womb?) - I am 7 1/2 months pregnant and have been taking 3 tablets every night! Does anybody have any more information on this? I'm a bit worried!

Is Neem also an adaptogen that supports the adrenals as well? Having a challenging time finding any concrete literature on this.
neem for acne?

Hello....I was wondering if someone could tell me a bit about the use of neem for acne.

In the last couple months I've suddenly had a bought of acne, especially along my jaw and chin area. I think this may have been caused by going off some meds (with my doctor's consent/recommendation)....and I have no intention of going back on them. So...I'm looking for another way to solve this.

I've heard that neem can be helpful for skin problems....but I've read some conflicting information. I've read that it can be taken internally for 2 months at a time...but then I've also read it should only be taken for 2 weeks, then 1 week off, etc. Does anyone know what sorts of dosages and timeline would be appropriate for acne?

Also...what about external use of the oil? What is the best way to go about this? (how often? what about use with other skin care products?)

Any information (or links to reliable resources) would be appreciated.

Thanks!

PS Sorry about the x-posting. After I posted in Herbal Medicine, I realized this tribe might also have some great info or experiences.

Mastitis

Hello tribe,

I'm hoping to get a few different perspectives on this problem. My wife, who is breastfeeding our little girl, has mastitis & I'm hoping to find an Ayurvedic solution. She is pitta dosha and has had some sort of blockage (sometimes it leads to mastitis, sometimes it doesn't) a few times over the last 6 months, always on the outer part of the left breast. This time she feels that it's more inside the breast, where before it was a lump closer to the surface on the outside. Previously nursing & fluids would clear it up, but this time it seems a bit more persistent.

I found the following very thorough article by John Douillard, whose opinion I respect. It's full of good advice, but to be honest I don't think my wife will buy into everything he has to say: http://www.lifespa.com/article.asp?art_id=25
I will definitely help her work on the diet & stress relief strategies he suggests, but I find that presenting my wife with rigid dietary and/or behavior changes sometimes tends to stress her out even more!

So, what I'm hoping someone can help me with is to recommend what of the herbal combinations listed toward the end of Douillard's article might be of immediate help to her? Alternatively, if any of you have any experience with mastitis and know of any other remedies, please let me know. I've read of using everything from grated potato to nettle tea for it, but am open to other suggestions. Thank you!

Here are his recommendations:
Specific Herbal Combinations
1. Trikatu (Piper longum, Piper nigrum, Zingiber officinalis). Mix 1⁄4 teaspoon combination with 1 teaspoon honey into paste before meals, to inhibit ama production during digestion.
2. Avipattikar churna. Take 1⁄2 teaspoon during meals to inhibit ama production during digestion.
3. Manjistha (Rubia cordifolia). Take 1⁄2 teaspoon after meals with water to destagnate blood and lymph.
4. As an antioxidant, take equal parts ashwaganda (Withania somnifera), gud¬du¬chi (Tinosporia cordifolia) and brahmi (Bacopa monniera).
5. Equal parts mahasudarshan, manjis¬tha, purnarnava (Boerhaavia diffusa), licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra), 1⁄2 teaspoon t.i.d. with hot water, as a lymphatic cleanser.
6. Soak wool cloth with castor oil and apply to breast 30 minutes t.i.d. with moist heat.
7. Drink 3-5 cups fennel tea per day.
8. Soak 1 teaspoon haritaki (Termina¬lia chebula) in 8 oz. water overnight. Strain off sediment and discard. Add 1 teaspoon honey to haritaki water, and drink in the morning. Do this once a day for one month. If a laxative effect occurs, cut back to 1⁄2 teaspoon haritaki or less.

Calming Vata

Hi guys,

I have just discovered Ayurveda and it is very, very exciting stuff. Also a little overwhelming though. I find I think that I tend to be very Vata. I was wondering what any of you could recommend has helped you or you know to be especially helpful for Vata people, especially for calming tendencies towards anxiety. Any considerations that have helped you whatsoever would be greatly appreciated... foods especially, or daily habits, really anything. (I already have two books on the subject, but I am curious what has worked for people.) Also, I was eating a lot of raw vegetables and raw vegetable juices before I discovered Ayurveda, have any of you Vata people noticed this does indeed aggravate your Vata?

Thanks so much.
Best, Jenna

namaste! i just spent about two months doing treatment at the Ayurveda Health Home in Kathmandu, Nepal. It was the best thing that I could have done for my health and for my life, in general. The treatment was incredible: the people who work there all look to the well-being of each person. I have never experienced anything like it. If you get a chance to go there, please jump on it: it will change your whole life!

Help me with my dosha...?

Hello All...I'm slightly familiar with Ayurveda. I've been having some skin issues and was wondering if someone could possibly help me figure out my dosha. Here are some of my characyteristics:

petite/shaply
curly dry hair
dry skin/eczema right now
anxious/restless at night
analyze worry a lot
creative
visual/kinestetic
do not like the cold or extreme heat
take on other peoples stress and get stressed easy
like to be social, but need quiet time a lot

I'm guessing I'm a vata/ pitta, but vata being dominant. I'm not an Ayurveda specialist so I'm guessing.

Of all the pics that have been posted, it seems to be the least relevant. Does anyone else feel the same way?

How to develop more pitta?

I had an evaluation like few years ago, and I was 40 Vatta, 30 Kappha and 10 Pitta (sorry if my spellings are off). In any case, I tend to get mostly Vatta imbalanced, and sometimes Kappha imbalanced. But mostly I am thinking that to balance everything out, I should develop my pitta more. What are some tips on how to do that?

I am a vata-kappha, and I find that I am really attracted to people with a lot of pita, however they often freak me out at the same time. I know there's that book "whats your dosha baby?", but what do you all think about combatibility with other doshas in tersm of romantic relationships and friendships? It seems logical to think that we would be attracted to the doshas that balance us out, but is that what other people think? I think I am really attracted to pita-kapphas right now. I used to LOVE vata men but lately I'm thinking that we could really imbalance eachother because of all the vata I have in me!

Hi All,

I am new to this Tribe and just wanted to say, "Namaste!" to all. It's wonderful to find other souls resonated with the ancient science of life!

I am currently a clinical doctorate student in Ayurvedic Medicine at the American University of Complementary Medicine in Los Angeles. I am really enjoying diving deeper and deeper into the study.

I am a longtime Yogananda devotee and have studied Chinese medicine and Homeopathy as well, but, I'm LOVING how the Ayurvedic medicine connects with all of my spiritual studies over the years.

Warm regards,

confusion about doshas

Hello....a while back, some of you recommended "Life of Balance" by Maya Tiwari. I was able to get the book from the library, and have just started reading it. My boyfriend and I both took the questioinnaire to determine our doshas. I'm a bit confused by the 'scoring' as there isn't much explanation. I was hoping maybe someone would have some insight or advice about our numbers.

My numbers were:
Vata: 17
Pitta: 12
Kapha: 10

And his:
Vata: 10
Pitta: 17
Kapha: 11

It seems like we each have a dominant dosha (Vata and Pitta, respectively), but we're not sure about the less dominant dosha. In either case, the other 2 doshas score very closely....and I'm not sure what this means, or what to do about it.

Initially, I thought that I was Vata, and he was Pitta...but then I read that these types are rare, and are dominated solely by the one dosha. Since we both have fair numbers with the remaining doshas....I thought maybe we must be a combination of some type.

I've also tried reading the descriptions of the types, and though Vata does apply to me.....the emotional/psychological aspect of Pitta doesn't apply to my boyfriend. This just served to make me a bit more confused!

I hope I'm making some sense here. :P Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm quite new to this, and I've gotten confused!

Thanks!
Vata-Pitta balancing?

Hi,

I am a Vata-Pitta type and they both need balancing.

My scalp feels somewhat tight, I got pimples ont he back of the head as well. I feel chamelion like, very floaty.

I have started to incorporate Ghee, Sun flower oil, warm heavy foods and warm liquids into my diet. I have ordered sesame oil to massage myself before shower.

What else can I do to come into balance?
I guess I need some Kapha generating practices...

cook book recommendations?

Hello....I've just started learning about ayurveda, and I'm interested in changing the way that I cook accordingly.

Does anyone have any ayurvedic cook book recommendations? A couple that I'm considering are:

"The Ayurvedic Cookbook" by Amadea Morningstar

"The Modern Ayurvedic Cookbook" by Amrhita Sondhi

"Eat, Taste, Heal" by Thomas Yarema (et al.)

Any preferences or comments?

I'm partial to books with pictures. ;) But my main concern is that the food actually tastes good, and is relatively easy to make.

hello beautiful people - i'm in search of a good program to hone my craft as an ayurvedess. i've done some research about programs here in US, but i'm curious to know if anyone can recommend good programs elsewhere. maybe i can squeeze some travel and amazing life experiences in between learning sanskrit, y'know? if you've got a recommendation, please expound on why you think it's a stellar program. thanks! meow!

ps i am open to great suggestions within the u.s. too....
